West Ham United's 30-year-old European record was finally beaten by Spanish champions Barcelona last night.
The current Champions League holders equalled West Ham's unique record of scoring in 27 consecutive European ties last month with a 3-2 win against Milan, meaning that should they score against FC BATE in the Nou Camp last night the record would be exclusively theirs.
In the end it took just over half-an-hour for the Barca team, who had an average age of just 23, to score the goal (in a half-full Nou Camp) that saw them snatch United's record; Sergi Roberto grabbing the goal that ensured they have now scored in their last 28 consecutive ties.
